Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA

In my opinion, Yellowstone National Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the United States. I visited it for the first time in 1987 when I had no equipment to make good photos. So I was glad to be able to return in 2016. Spent three full days in the park.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

Nothing to live for!

Mammoth Hot Springs is a large complex of hot springs on a hill of travertine in Yellowstone National Park adjacent to Fort Yellowstone and the Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District. It's a beautiful area where nothing grows although some trees have tried by the looks of it.

Feeding a bison calf

Herds of bison are roaming freely in Yellowstone National Park. Care must be taken not to get too close to them as they are huge animals and can be quite dangerous if they feel threatened.

Emerald insight

Not all geothermal features in Yellowstone National Park have the same temperature. The water in the Emerald Spring is so hot that it's hard to capture it because of all the steam coming from it. It does creature a bit of a mysterious look though.

Steamboat Geyser

Steamboat Geyser in Yellowstone National Park was the first active geyser we encountered while walking in the Norris Geyser Basin. The eruption lasted quite some time and spurts of hot water went in various directions.

Power spurts

Every geyser and geothermal feature in Yellowstone National Park has its own uniqueness. Clepsydra Geyser isn't all that high but the water comes out in powerful spurts. If I look at this image I can still hear the roaring sound.

Forget rainbows

This is by far the most magnificent Spring in Yellowstone National Park. The Grand Prismatic Spring is so huge that it is impossible to capture it all in one photo. The colours are so amazing that it easily beats the beauty of rainbows.

Always on time

The Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park is the most reliable geyser of all. It erupts many times a day with intervals ranging between 60 and 90 minutes. Sitting on one of the many benches around it we patiently waited and enjoyed the show.

The cute one!

Yellowstone National Park has en enormous amount of natural springs and geysers. Some are more beautiful than others and I thought the Blue Star Spring was particularly cute.

Wapiti drinking from the lake

Just before sunset we noticed this wapiti drinking from Yellowstone Lake. The angle used in this photo in combination with the shape of the shore makes it quite an artistic image.

Over the edge

I spent a good couple of hours near Lower Yellowstone Falls as I just love waterfalls. This one is particularly beautiful as it can be viewed from above and below, as well as from a distance. Platforms allow people to come really close to experience the power of the water.

There it goes

The Lower Yellowstone Falls drops its water into the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. A magnificent view that we enjoyed so much.

Nibbling

Yellowstone National Park hosts many squirrels. This one was so cute that I had to take a photo of it. Some small leaves were in the way but they created this dreamy look.

Chip or Dale

Chipmunks are extremely cute little animals. Very hard to photograph as they are running around like crazy. I was lucky that this one sat still for a brief moment.

Relaxed wapiti

When we returned to the village of Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone National Park, we were positively surprised by a large number of wapiti lying on the grass. Beautiful animals, also called elk, that are basically a larger species of deer.

Jewel Geyser

This area of Biscuit Basin in Yellowstone National Park was extremely quiet. Probably because it was a bit of a dull area. However, just as we were about to leave the Jewel Geyser started to erupt.

Morning Glory Pool

I had visited the Morning Glory Pool in 1987 when the core had a light blue colour. It has now changed into green. Still an awesome sight to see.

Riverside Geyser

On our last day in Yellowstone National Park we drove past the Riverside geyser. There was a sign that said it would erupt within the next 30 minutes, something that did not happen frequently. So, we waited and were not disappointed.
