Vanuatu

Vanuatu, officially the Republic of Vanuatu, is an island country in Melanesia, located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago, which is of volcanic origin, is 1.750 km east of northern Australia, 540 km northeast of New Caledonia, east of New Guinea, southeast of Solomon Islands, and west of Fiji.

We were looking forward to an excursion we booked to the Mele cascades. The local organisation we booked it with turned out to be very hard to find, but luckily the taxi driver knew they had moved apparently. Glad he did as we would not want to have missed this one.

Ifira Island

On deck of our cruise ship Norwegian Jewel watching the arrival in Vanuatu. Here we are slowly passing small Ifira Island near the capital city of Port Vila on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

Like in a fairytale

We really looked forward to our excursion to the Mele cascades near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu. Once there we were not disappointed, it was like a fairytale come true. On our way to the actual cascading waterfalls we passed many emerald green and turquoise pools like the one in this photo.

Spectacular pool & waterfall

Showing off a mix between turquoise and emerald green this pool & waterfall is truly spectacular to see. It's all part of the tour to the Mele cascades near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

Slippery slope upwards

Yes, there are some ropes that you can hold on to, but it remains a slippery slope upwards on the Mele cascades. It's all worth it though once you take in all the beauty surrounding you. Definitely worth doing and it can easily be reached from the capital city of Port Vila on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

Quite the challenge

Saying it is relatively easy to go up the Mele cascades would be an understatement. It is quite the challenge to manoeuvre the slippery slopes and trying not to fall. Despite of all of this I can definitely recommend to go here when you are near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

Emerald green pool

Another gorgeous emerald green pool while walking upwards to the Mele cascades near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu. We have seen quite a few waterfalls but never in these beautifully coloured setting.

Insanely beautiful

It is one insanely beautiful view after another while walking our way upwards on the Mele cascades near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu. This is just one of the many smaller waterfalls we came across on our way to the main waterfall.

Main waterfall at the Mele cascades

The long and slippery slope upwards on the Mele cascades ended when we reached the main waterfall. The setting in the lush green vegetation is simply breathtaking. It is definitely worth the effort to visit the cascades near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

Close-up of the waterfall

Close-up of the Evergreen cascades waterfall near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu. Since it is allowed to swim here it took a while before I was able to photograph it without any people on it.

Can't get enough of this waterfall

After having spent an hour at this most beautiful waterfall it was hard to leave it. I simply couldn't get enough of this waterfall. If you ever find yourself in Vanuatu, don't forget to visit the Mele cascades and this amazing waterfall near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate.

A natural slide in the jungle

Walking through the fairy tale world near the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu. We stumbled upon this natural slide in the jungle. The colours are just amazing.

The natural slide looks easy enough

Even though this natural slide looked easy enough I didn't dare to go down on it. It was pretty tempting though given the high temperature. It is located in the village of Mele Maat on the island of Efate in Vanuatu.

Lovely garden

After our trip to the Mele Cascades and waterfall we sat down in this lovely garden at the Tanna coffee roastery. Tanna coffee is located in the city of Port Vila on the island of Efate in Vanuatu. Great local coffee and a chance to see the coffee roasting process up close.
