Gotland, Sweden (2012)

We met a lovely couple from Gotland in Sweden while we were on a trip in the town of Pattaya in Thailand, Asia. They asked us to come visit them on their island and so we did. Summertime on Gotland is the perfect time they told us and they were right. We got to stay with them in the small community of Fröjel on the western side. The jewel of the island is the historical city of Visby. So much history there and perfectly preserved.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

Where the wild roses grow

One of the many hidden gardens in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. Lovely to see where the wild roses grow.

The Visby tourist office

The awesome looking Visby tourist office in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. We did not go in but we just loved those doors.

Hidden red house

Passing just one of the many see-through holes in the historic walls in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. Lovely to see this red house that's hidden behind the gates. Gates that do not seem to have any other purpose than to look nice.

Coffee anyone

We had a lovely time in the Kränku Tea & Coffee shop while shopping in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. We loved this row of colourful coffee mugs.

Coffee anyone?

Yllet boutique

The lovely Yllet boutique in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden is truly nice to visit. Walking through the arches make it a cosy experience.

Orange arches

The local residents in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden sure love to use colours. These orange arches are a nice example of that.

Just two white chairs and a table

Just two white chairs and a table in the historic centre of the city Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. We had no idea to what establishment these belonged to as there was no cafe or restaurant in the vicinity.

A small antique store

A small antique store in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. The historic city centre is filled with small stores like this. There is no place for larger department stores.

The good life

Enjoying the good life in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. After a lot of walking around the city we were in need of coffee and could not resist to have something extra and I decided on this cream cone. It was lovely to see so many people enjoying themselves on 'Stora Torget', the main square in the city.

Ochre home

Like almost every house in the centre of the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden, this one too is perfectly maintained. We loved the ochre colouring of the door and windows.

Not quite the right time

We loved this sundial while strolling through the botanical in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. It did not quite provide the right time though.

Time zooms

I could not resist using my zoom lens on this sundial in the botanical garden of the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. I think it created quite a nice artistic effect.

Looking through the wall

The historic centre in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden is surrounded by the original city walls that are completely intact. Looking through this wall is possible in many places and usually provides some really nice views.

Exploding clocktower

Playing with the zoom lens on my camera. This clocktower can be found on one of the university of Uppsala buildings in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. The zoom effect creates this exploding clocktower as I like to call it.

Knick knacks

Strolling past the many stalls on the summer market in the city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden. So many knick knacks here that it's hard to choose.

Nobody home

At the end of our short trip to the island of Gotland in Sweden we visited the small community of Djupvik. It is dotted with small cottages that once were in use by the local fishermen. Nowadays they can be rented by people having their holiday in this quiet part of the island. Nobody home though.

Pure peacefulness

Our last day on the beautiful island of Gotland in Sweden. We drove in a south-westerly direction of the island and were surprised by the low vegetation and swampy appearance. We loved all the little flowers all over the place.
