Gotland, Sweden (2014)

In April of 2014 we went for a short trip to Gotland, Sweden. We have friends living there and they showed us some of the interesting parts on the island. The island is wonderful mixture of nature, small villages and the historic city of Visby.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

Let's get the mail

In order to make it easier for the mail delivery service the small community of Fröjel on the island of Gotland in Sweden bundled all the mailboxes of a street on one convenient location. Our friends had to walk quite a bit to get their mail.

Three tiny 'no ideas'!

During our visit to our friends on the island of Gotland in Sweden we went for some walks around their small community Fröjel. Upon seeing these three tiny cabins we asked them what they were but they could not explain it. We thought of all sorts of explanations but ultimately decided on 'no idea'!

Scattered rocks

It was a beautiful day to walk along the shore near the small community of Fröjel on the island of Gotland in Sweden. The sky was blue and the water was smooth as silk making the scattered rocks reflect beautifully.

Taking the higher path

Walking along the Western coastline near the small community of Fröjel on the island of  Gotland in Sweden. It was a very beautiful day with blue skies all over and the sea was incredibly smooth. Some of the people living on this coast have made jetties in the water for their boats.

Green algae thriving

The Folhammar Raukområde near the village of Ljugarn on the island of Gotland in Sweden is a beautiful part of nature. Challenging to walk around in but it offers many interesting discoveries. I was particularly fond of the many small pools containing thriving green algae.

Abrasion-shaped

It is rough terrain and hard to manoevre but the Folhammar Raukområde near the village of Ljugarn on the island of Gotland in Sweden is a real treat for nature lovers. Lots of perfect rauks and many small pools to explore.

Such a funny tree

Strolling around in the Folhammar Raukområde near the village of Ljugarn on the island of Gotland in Sweden is a real pleasure. The rauks are magnificent but the whole area is a display of some unique nature. I particularly liked this funny tree.

The love gate

The botanical garden in the historic city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden is partly surrounded by original city walls. The various entry points are usually gates and have gotten names. This gate is called the Love Gate.

Yellow Spring flowers

Our friends on the island of Gotland in Sweden took us to the botanical gardens in the historical city of Visby. Nice is that the gardens are freely accessible for everyone. Since it was Spring there were so many wonderful Spring flowers to be seen.

Going through the gate

The historic city of Visby on the island of Gotland in Sweden is a delight to walk around in. It really breathes a medieval atmosphere with its many small streets, arches, gates and colourful houses.

Where Pippi lives

While we were on the island of Gotland in Sweden we took the chance to visit the original house where Pippi Longstocking lived. Villa Villekula is located a little outside of Visby and was easily reachable. It was really lovely to see this house for real as I had some fond memories of the original TV series.

Visby from the cliff

Reaching the end of our short visit to Gotland, Sweden our friends took us to Högklint. Beautiful part of the island with some amazing cliffs and the perfect view on the historic city of Visby.
