Lifou, New Caledonia

Towards the end of this incredible cruise it was time for some relaxation. The Norwegian Jewel docked in the Santal Bay near the town of Easo on the New Caledonian island of Lifou. Not really much else to do than find a beach, lay in the sun and swim in the crystal clear water. In addition I went for a short walk up to the Notre Dame de Lourde church and Jinek Bay.

Small peninsula with the Notre Dame de Lourde

Passing this small peninsula while sailing into the Santal Bay on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. Notre Dame de Lourde is on the top of the hill which I visited later in the day.

Found a perfect little beach

Found a perfect little beach near the town of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. As usual most of the guests on our cruise ship took the first beach they found after they arrived at the jetty. We walked a bit further until we found a beach that was totally empty.

Picture perfect

An island, palm trees, turquoise waters and a cruise ship in the bay. A perfect tropical picture, don't you think? Simply enjoying life on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia.

Some rules on Lifou

You would think that life on the beautiful island of Lifou in New Caledonia is simple. However, like everywhere, there are some rules on Lifou. I loved the one where you are not allowed to touch the coconut leaves.

Reached the end of the beach

This is as far as I could get on the beach near the town of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. Since nobody is interested in this remote part of the beach without any sand to lie on, it was nice and quiet. Perfect for me!

The last steps up

The last steps up before reaching Notre Dame de Lourde near the town of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. It looked easier than it actually was but it was definitely worth it considering the great 360 degree views that were waiting above.

Patiently waiting in the bay

Baie de Jinek

The 360 degree views high up on the hill near the town of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia are truly awesome. Apart from the Santal Bay where our cruise ship is located, it is also possible to see Baie de Jinek on the other side of the island.

Snorkeling in Baie de Jinek

I walked down towards Baie de Jinek near the twon of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia. It's a beautiful bay, turquoise waters and all. The coral provides food and shelter for many species of fish and snorkeling here is a favourite pastime.

Traditional hut on Lifou

While walking around near the town of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia I passed this small open air museum showing some traditional huts that once were in use on Lifou. To my surprise it was freely accessible and interesting to see.

Pink Frangipani

During my short walk on the island I was pleased to find some Plumeria flowers. This here is the pink Frangipani (Plumeria) I saw near the town of Easo on the island of Lifou in New Caledonia.
