Arcen, The Netherlands (2022)

Early 2022 and still struggling with the pandemic, we continued with the discovery of our own country. We booked a luxureous villa in the province of Limburg near the town of Arcen. Great place to relax, do some nature walks and visit some towns in the area. We loved the town of Thorn where all buildings are white.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

Bridge leading to the parking lot

Lovely bridge leading to the parking lot near the castle and tea dome 'Inaborg' in the town of Arcen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. Pretty weird feeling to realise we were the only ones there.

The tea dome in Arcen

We absolutely adored this lovely cottage near the town of Arcen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. It is actually a so-called tea dome which was built in the early 18th century. It was used by the ladies of the castle to drink a cup of tea when the men were hunting. The grove in which it is located is called 'the Inaborg' (a borg is a noble house). Since 1930 the tea dome has fallen into disrepair and virtually nothing was left of it.

In 2009, the last year before the reorganization, the then municipality of Arcen en Velden, together with the Limburgs Landschap, managed to acquire funds so that complete new construction could take place. The building is available for photo sessions and small-scale meetings.

Arcen castle

Kasteel Arcen near the town of Arcen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. We loved Arcen castle even though it could only be viewed from the outside.

Bridge leading to the castle

Bridge leading to the main gate of Kasteel Arcen near the town of Arcen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. Due to the pandemic it was closed unfortunately. Still looked amazing from the outside.

The artistic castle

The artistic castle is basically Kasteel Arcen upside down as a reflection in the moat surrounding the castle. Due to the pandemic it was obviously closed, but we loved walking around this lovely castle near the town of Arcen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. Love playing with the camera and resulting shots to come up with an interesting picture.

View through the bridge

Loved this nice view through the bridge of Kasteel Well near the town of Well, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. The castle is a beautiful moated castle. The current castle was built in the fifteenth century, but only acquired its current appearance later, in the seventeenth century. Behind the current castle are the remains of a tower mill from the fifteenth century.

Wall perspective

Visiting Kasteel Well, a restored 14th-century moated medieval castle in the Netherlands, which serves as the European campus of Emerson College. It is home to 90 Emerson students for three months each Fall and Spring term, as well as for summer programs. The castle is located in the small village of Well, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. It's a perfect location against a backdrop of pastures with grazing horses and cows and tree-lined bike paths all contribute to the magic of this unique setting.

In case someone gets cold

In case someone gets cold, there's enough wood in the Maasduinen National Park near the town of Bergen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. We couldn't really figure out why so much wood was stored there. They probably sell it off.

A lovely path upwards

A lovely path upwards in the Maasduinen National Park near the town of Bergen, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. We had such a nice and peaceful walk in an almost empty park. The weather could have been a bit better, but all in all we had no complaints. Definitely recommended to go for a nature walk here.

Crossing the lake

We really loved our walk in the Maasduinen National Park near the town of Bergen in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. Crossing the lake here as there is lots of water.

Going into the white town

Since we were in the neighborhood we definitely wanted to visit the white town of Thorn, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. Here we are going into the centre of town. Given the pandemic we saw no-one else on the streets. Kind of eerie to be honest.

The white house

Sorry for the somewhat misleading title but this one made me think of the white house, but well, it is white and it is a house. Actually a beautiful house in the town of Thorn, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands.

The old cart track

One of the old cart tracks in the town of Thorn, located in the province of Limburg, the Netherlands. Because we were all alone here it all looks so peaceful.

Central square in Thorn

The Central square in the town of Thorn, province of Limburg in the Netherlands. In normal times this square would be extremely crowded with tourists. Given the pandemic and that everything is closed we have the place all to ourselves. One of the few advantages.
