Tuscany, Italy, Europe
We did not spend a lot of time in Tuscany, generally a very well liked area in Italy. We had been there before so we just stayed two nights in Firenze (Florence). It gave us enough time to explore the city centre with its gorgeous cathedral and of course the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge. After leaving Florence we stopped in the town of Pisa for some lunch near the leaning tower of Pisa.

The Fountain of Neptune in Florence (Firenze), Italy. We heard it had sustained a great deal of damage over the years due to vandalism and general mistreatment but underwent a major restoration completed in 2019 that restored it to its original glory.

The Ponte Vecchio or ‘Old Bridge’, that joins the centre of city with the district of Oltrarno on the south bank of the river Arno, is surely one of the great icons of Florence and one of the most famous bridges in the world.
Living on a bridge
Living on a bridge like the Ponte Vecchio in Florence (Firenze), Italy must be really special. Although, truth be told, most houses are actually goldsmith shops. Shopkeepers altered the original structure by taking away the old battlements, adding windows, and building upwards and backwards out over the river, supporting the new rooms on wooden props called sporti. The shops attract a lot of tourists and it makes crossing the bridge in between all the shops pretty chaotic.

A nice close-up view of the colourful houses built on the Ponte Vecchio in the town of Florence (Firenze), Italy. It really looks pretty but with the mass tourism on that bridge I am glad I don't have to live there.
The famous leaning Tower of Pisa
The famous leaning Tower of Pisa that this lovely town in Tuscany, Italy is known for. We had been here before but this time we entered the site from a less used direction which gave much better views.

The cathedral and its bell tower
Beautiful view of the cathedral and its bell tower in the town of Pisa, Italy. It is easy to see how crooked the tower really is. We loved exploring the area around the leaning tower and were pretty happy it wasn't all that crowded.
