London, United Kingdom (2012)

At the end of 2012 my wife was having six heavy chemo treatments. Each lasted three weeks and they were exhausting for her. Every third week, just before the next treatement she was sort of ok and I planned something nice. So inbetween Christmas and New Years Eve I organised a short trip to London in the United Kingdom. We kept activities to a minimum but loved Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and Covent Garden. We truly enjoyed the Christmas decorations all over the city.

The doors of 58 & 59

There's nothing special about this place in the city of London, United Kingdom, except for the doors. The doors of number 58 & 59 are identical yet painted in a different colour. We though they looked really nice.

Impressive gate to Burlington House

We loved this impressive gate to Burlington House in the city of London, United Kingdom. The Royal Academy wanted a suitably grand carriage entrance from Piccadilly so a lavishly decorated archway was built with huge wrought iron gates.

Through the roof

The yellow cab

The yellow cab at Harrods in the city of London, United Kingdom really stood out in the evening traffic. Many people being picked up or dropped off at London's greatest department store Harrods.

Wanna be haunted?

We were drawn to lights in the distance when approaching Hyde Park in the city of London, United Kingdom. Turned out it was a complete fair in the middle of winter called 'Winter Wonderland'. If you wanna be haunted then go to this awesome Haunted House.

Every fair should have at least one carousel and 'The pride of London' at the 'Winter Wonderland' fair in Hyde Park in the city of London, United Kingdom was absolutely gorgeous.

It was too wet to sit outside at Neal's Yard in the city of London, United Kingdom. We really loved this artistic inner courtyard with quaint and colourful shops and bars.

Way out

Sometimes I like to use long-exposure photography, especially when trains are coming or going. We waited for all passengers to have left the platform and positioned ourselves at the end near the 'Way out' sign of the London Underground in the city of London, United Kingdom. With my wife walking towards me and the train leaving the station I managed to get this lovely shot.

The flying umbrella

Look left, look right!

When visiting a country where traffic is on the left side of the road in stead of the right side you have to pay extra attention when crossing the road. London in the United Kingdom has lots of places with clear markings to make sure you follow the simple rule Look left, look right' to make sure no traffic is coming.

Up to the cocktail lounge

We closed off our short trip to London in the United Kingdom by having a cocktail in a luxureous hotel near the one we were staying at. These stairs led up to the cocktail lounge.
