Newcastle, England, UK (2013)
Early 2013 when my wife was undergoing chemo treatments we could do some short travels in between treatments. Since our niece studied on the University of Durham at the time we decided to go to Newcastle, an easy trip by ferry. We booked a room in the amazing Lumley Castle near the town of Chester-le-Street.

N737 Starward
Early morning arrival in the United Kingdom by ferry from the Netherlands. While going up the river Tyne we passed the fishing wharf at North Shields, England. We really like the bright colours of the N737 Starward fishing trawler.
Bridge 'n birds
We really loved the design of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, United Kingdom. We had great weather to fully enjoy our day in Newcastle.

Entering Lumley Castle near the town of Chester-le-Street, England, United Kingdom. This place is really what you'd expect a castle be. Great possibilities for some nice walking on the grounds too. Definitely recommended!

Closed castle
The beautiful Alnwick Castle near the town of Alnwick, England, United Kingdom. We drove quite a while up North only to discover that the castle was closed for visitors because of restoration work. The only thing left to do was to admire it from a distance. Nice to know that this castle was used in the Harry Potter films.
Old door
We were really taken by this old door at Durham cathedral in the city of Durham, England, United Kingdom. Beautiful craftmanship and so well maintained, just like the rest of the cathedral.

We really loved this huge hallway inside Durham cathedral in the city of Durham, England, United Kingdom. So, which way to go? This particular hallway was used in the first Harry Potter film.
Checking out Durham Castle
A lovely day for checking out Durham Castle in the city of Durham, England, United Kingdom. We kept it to the so-called cheap view, i.e. we did not go inside. Really loved the architecture.
