Valley of Fire (Nevada), USA

The first park we visited on our short road trip was the Valley of Fire, less than two hours from Las Vegas. This state park totally surprised us and was so much more than we expected it to be. Awesome rock formations and extremely quiet as not a lot of people know about it. I can definitely recommend going there.

Remote landscape

We loved every aspect of this remote landscape in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. Located just two hours from Las Vegas stands an otherworldly landscape of epic proportions. Some gaze into the rock formations and see fire. Filmmakers see Mars. Whatever the truth may be, Valley of Fire State Park has something to offer for everyone who loves nature and grand landscapes.

The arch rock

Great view of the arch rock in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. Although it would have been possible to go up there and see it up close, we did not really have the time to do so. Pity, but maybe next time!

Atlatl Rock

Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, USA is an excellent place to see Native American rock art up close. Atlatl Rock offers a collection of petroglyphs on a boulder about fifty feet off the ground. A metal staircase has been installed on the side of the red sandstone formation that took us right up to a viewing area in front of the petroglyphs.

Some green at Atlatl rock

It's not all just rocks in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. At the Atlatl rock we did find some green vegetation. Typically plants that survive in this unfriendly rocky environment. Made for a great picture though.

Heavy to hike

Awe inspiring views at the Fire canyon & Silica dome vista in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. It would be awesome but so heavy to hike here. But I sure wanted to.

Too hot to hike

Against my better judgement I decided on doing the White Domes loop trail in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. At eleven o'clock in the morning and already 44 degrees Celcius it really was too hot to hike. As it was 'just' two miles I thought it was going to be a breeze. It was not!

To that gorge

Apparently I had to go into that gorge on the White Domes loop trail in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. As awesome as it was, it was a bit narrow at times and I seriously wondered if this was really the way to go.

Following the trail

Following the signs on the White Domes loop trail in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, USA. At times it was hard to find the next marker which made it a bit scary. I was the only one on this trail and mobile service was non-existent. Not the brightest decision I ever made, but it was well worth it.
