Fiji

Fiji is one of those places that have an exotic ring to it. So we were glad the cruise had two port of calls here, the town of Nadi and the capital city of Suva. Nadi was a bit of a disappointment to be honest, but our river cruise on the Navua river from Suva was awesome.

Fiji, officially the Republic of Fiji, is an island country in Melanesia, part of Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies about 1.100 nautical miles (2.000 km) north-northeast of New Zealand. Fiji consists of an archipelago of more than 330 islands.

Pink sunset in Fiji

A gorgeous pink sunset in Fiji while on the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel. Even though we will arrive the next day we have been sailing in Fiji waters on the Pacific Ocean for a large part of the day already.

Sri Siva Subramaniya temple

A quick stop at the Sri Siva Subramaniya temple near the town of Nadi on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. I always love the amazing colours in these Hindu temples.

Big tree with the little ones

Enjoying a coconut drink at a stop in a restaurant at Vuda marina on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. We loved the big tree with all the little ones surrounding it.

Conquering the rapids

Conquering the rapids while sitting in a very low longboat in the Navua river on the main island Viti Levu in Fiji. This was just at the beginning of our tour into the jungle and still a long way to go. So many bends and rapids still ahead.

Walking along some wild rapids

We all had to get out of the longboat and walk along the river because of some wild upstream rapids in the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. The boats will simply be too heavy to go upstream otherwise.

A colourful longboat

One of the colourful longboats that was taking us up on the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. Without any passengers here as that would be too heavy to safely conquer the heave upstream rapids.

Just follow that other longboat

We were definitely not the only ones going up the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. There are only so many people that fit into a longboat so more boats were needed to transport us all into the jungle. Just follow that other longboat and we'll get there eventually.

The water turns green

The further we enter deep into the jungle the more the water turns green. The boat trip on the Navua river on the main island Viti Levu in Fiji is truly amazing.

Through some rough rapids

At times the water in the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji was not all that smooth. Here we came across some rough rapids that had to be navigated through making sure the longboat didn't get too much water in it.

Path towards the waterfall

After a thrilling boat ride on the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji we reached a somewhat dodgy docking site deep into the jungle. Following the path towards the waterfall took another half hour.

They call it the magic waterfall

This waterfall can be found deep into the jungle of the main island Viti Levu in Fiji. They call it the magic waterfall and it can only be reached by taking a longboat on the Navua river and a strenuous walk.

The milky magic waterfall

This shows the magic waterfall in its full glory. Located deep in the jungle it can only be reached by taking a longboat on the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji.

Imposing cliffs

Passing some amazing and imposing high cliffs on the Navua river on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. Such a peaceful and relaxing place to be.

The village preschool

On the way back from our river cruise on the Navua river we stopped at the village of Koromakawa on the main island of Viti Levu, Fiji. We were welcomed by the lovely local people and walked around the small village. We loved this little village preschool building.

The old Vunivaivai Bridge

Driving back to the city of Suva on the Naitonitoni Road on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. Here passing the old Vunivaivai Bridge that is no longer in use.

This one didn't make it

Back on the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel leaving the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji. Navigating the lagoon requires some accurate navigation. This one didn't make it apparently.
