Copenhagen, Denmark (2018)

Before we started our cruise to the North Cape we spent a few days in the capital of Denmark. Copenhagen was bathing in sunshine and we got to see all the major sights. We had been in the city before but never did we go to Nyhavn, the colourful old harbour, which we simply loved. We also loved the city tour on the water. Other highlights were a visit to Christiansborg, Kastellet, the Royal Palace and Rosenborg Slot.

Blue, red, green & yellow

Blue, red, green & yellow houses along the Nyhavn canal in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. This historic area is know for its colourful houses and cosy atmosphere. On a beautiful sunny day like this one was it's even better as all restaurants have their terraces open.

People enjoying themselves

As it was a glorious and sunny day, lots of people are enjoying themselves walking along the historic colourful houses on Nyhavn in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. The best view of Nyhavn is from the opposite side of the harbour. Obviously we went for a drink on one of the many outside terraces.

Beautiful boat

Apart from the colourful houses there are quite some beautiful old vessels and sailing ships to admire in the popular Nyhavn canal in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Living on the water

Freetown Christiania, also known as Christiania, is an intentional community, commune and micronation in the Christianshavn neighbourhood of the Danish capital city of Copenhagen. People live their lives basically anyway they want without having to adhere to rules. Here we see people living on the water.

Scenes at the royal palace

Statue of King Christian IX

After our visit to Christiansborg in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark we came out via the back entrance. On our way to the royal stables we passed this statue of King Christian IX, king of Denmark from 15 November 1863 until his death in 1906.

To the royal stables

Following an awesome archway towards the royal stables near Christiansborg in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. Magnificent architecture.

This marble bridge in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark is next to Christiansborg and the Royal stables. It's very clean and well maintained.

Huks Fluks on Gråbrødretorv

There are many beautiful buildings and facades in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. Restaurant Huks Fluks on Gråbrødretorv is just one of them but it caught our attention because of the name. Huks Fluks just sounded so nice.

Historic worker's houses

Nyboder is a historic row house district of former Naval barracks in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. These historic worker's houses are almost three hundred years old and have been fabulously restored. Even today, people are actually living in these houses.

Dinner with a view

Kastellet in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark is a huge city park and awesome for some beautiful walks. We decided to bring something to eat and drink and have our dinner while enjoying the view.

Backlit fountain

We were in love with this fountain on the grounds of Amalienborg, the Royal Palace in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. As the late afternoon sun was so low in the sky we had some amazing views like this backlit one.

Frederiks Kirke

After our visit to Amalienborg, the Royal Palace in the city of Copenhagen in Denmark we walked back to the city centre. Here we are approaching the Frederiks Kirke, nicely backlit by the late afternoon sun.

View from the gardens

We loved our visit to Rosenborg Castle in the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. Because of the enormous amount of people that wanted to go inside, we went for the cheap view and admired the castle from the surrounding gardens.

Surrounded by the moat

Rosenborg Slot in the city of Copenhagen in Denmark is surrounded by a moat. A few bridges connect this magnificent castle to the outside world. There were way too many people waiting to visit the castle so we limited our visit to just admiring the outside.
