New York, USA

We always love coming to New York. This time we started our journey here because of a concert in the stateside town of Bethel at the original Woodstock site. Before going there though we spent a few days in this magnificent city that never sleeps.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Apartments for lease

Walking around in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood in New York, USA. On our mission to find a decent breakfast place I noticed these apartment buildings. I loved the outside stairwells.

I found luv

I went looking for pizza and I found luv in New York, USA. Great pizzeria where everything is either pink or purple and all colours in between. Quite pretty actually. Pizza was great too.

Emptying the bottle

There had been some rainfall apparently as we noticed this puddle while walking towards the Empire State Building in New York, USA. I loved this picture because of the reflection and the water bottle in the corner. Like the puddle was formed by the water running out of the bottle.

Midtown East

Looking towards the east while on top of the Empire State Building in New York, USA provides a great view over the area called Midtown East. Most remarkable building to be seen is the Chrysler Building.

The Upper East side

Awesome view of the Upper East side from the top of the Empire State Building in New York, USA. In the upper left corner Central Park can be seen. Also visible is the famous Fifth Avenue and surrounding shopping district.

Lower Manhattan

The Empire State Building in New York, USA is roughly located in the middle of Manhattan. At the top people can enjoy views all around the city. Here we are looking at Lower Manhattan with the Financial District and Wall Street all the way at the end. Even the new World Trade Center can be seen.

Sun reflections on the East River

We spent a long time on top of the Empire State Building in New York, USA. The ultimate goal was to witness the sunset but since we arrived way too early that took quite some time. In the meantime we enjoyed the late afternoon sun shining on the city. Here we see the sun reflected in the East River.

The Chrysler Building at sunset

The Chrysler Building at sunset while standing on top of the Empire State Building in New York, USA. It's truly beautiful to see the sun shining the warm late afternoon light on the city.

It's getting nicer and nicer

We specifically went up the Empire State Building to witness the sunset and see the city lights in the dark. We had to wait a long, long time as it seemed to take forever before we could actually get some nice views. But after a while it was getting nicer and nicer on the Empire State Building in New York, USA.

The Rink at Rockefeller Plaza

In winter the Rink at Rockefeller Plaza in New York, USA is used for ice skating. In summer though it is used for roller skating. Not many people active on this hot and dry day in July.

Saint Patrick's cathedral

Saint Patrick's cathedral on Fifth Avenue in New York, USA. Still standing in between the many skyscrapers surrounding it. The size of the cathedral makes it impossible to get it all in one picture, hence just the entrance. Amazing architecture.

Reflective skyscraper

I find big city architecture fascinating, especially the latest glass skyscrapers. Especially on days like these when the sun is shining bright I love to look at the reflections. This is a huge skyscraper on Fifth Avenue in New York, USA.

Approaching the Trump Tower

Whatever anyone might think of Donald Trump, he sure owns some impressive buildings. Here we are approaching the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York, USA.

The waterfall wall

I have visited the Trump Tower on 5th Avenue in New York, USA quite a few times. I always love looking at the architecture inside. The waterfall wall is one of my favourites. Water slowly drips from high above along the tiled wall and is spectacular to see, especially when the sun shines.

More than enough benches

Whenever you get tired after a long walk or just want to relax for a bit you never have to search far. There are more than enough benches in Central Park in New York, USA.

Escaped from the fifties

Central Park in New York, USA is a truly diverse place where all sorts of people walk, hang out or just want to be seen. We didn't ask these two lovely ladies what made them walk around in clothes making them seem to have escaped from the fifties.

Central Park vendors

Many vendors selling their art all through Central Park in New York, USA. The colourful stalls are really nice to see and some of the art is very pretty. We didn't buy anything though.

Globe sculpture at Columbus Circle

After a lovely walk in Central Park we noticed this globe sculpture at Columbus Circle in New York, USA. Impressive piece of art.

Lines & light

It has been a long time since we visited the area where the two WTC towers once stood in New York, USA. We were curious to see how the area was transformed into a memorial. It turned out to be a beautiful experience. We were amazed by the fabulous architecture of both the new World Trade Center as well as the buildings around it. Many lines and light. Most impressive was the memorial with two huge pools where the two towers once stood with the thousands of victims engraved.

World Trade Center

The new World Trade Center as seen from the National September 11 Memorial in New York, USA. Impressive architecture that has been built next to the site where the original WTC towers were located.

More names at the South Tower Pool

The National September 11 Memorial near the new World Trade Center in New York, USA is such an impressive place. Apart from the fact you get to experience the enormity of the site where the original towers once stood and the impact their collapse must have had, reading the names of the victims is a chilling experience. The names of all the victims are engraved on the edges around the two pools indicating where the North and South towers once were.

Where the South Tower once stood

I have been in New York many times and have been on top of the original World Trade Center. After they were taken down by a terrorist attack I have visited Ground Zero and saw the enormous impact it had in the center of the financial district. Now, many years later we wanted to visit the National September 11 Memorial next to the new World Trade Center. This is where the South Tower once stood and it made us feel silent inside.

Italian ice

In hindsight it was too hot to cross the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, USA on this beautiful day. There's hardly any shade and without a breeze to cool off we almost got overheated walking from Brooklyn to Manhattan. We should have gone for some Italian ice at the start.

Approaching the first pillar

Approaching the first pillar on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, USA. Even though it is usually pretty busy with pedestrians it is almost a pleasureable walk, especially on a sunny day like the one we had.

Impressive structure

The design and architecture of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, USA is truly amazing. Whenever you are in New York, crossing this bridge on foot is time well-spent. I recommend walking it in the direction of Manhattan, starting in Brooklyn.
