De Rijp, The Netherlands (2021)
Still in the Covid pandemic we could not escape winter as we would have loved to do. So instead we made a list of interesting places to visit in The Netherlands. Discovering our own country so to speak. On a clear and sunny day in January we went to the small city of De Rijp. All restaurants were closed but walking around in this historic place was pretty cool.

Visiting an old town
It was awfully quiet when we arrived in the old city of De Rijp in The Netherlands. Since there wasn't much else to do I would have expected more people to be there. But given the fact that restaurants were closed there wasn't much to do except for walking around and admire the historic atmosphere.
There's a heron in town
Normally only seen in nature, but herons are getting more common in cities these days. Here's a heron in the small city of De Rijp in The Netherlands. Comfortably resting behind one of the houses near the canal.
Crossing the bridge
Crossing the bridge (Dambrug) in the centre of the old city of De Rijp in The Netherlands. Behind the bridge is the history town hall amongst other centuries old buildings.
Historic town hall
Amazing, centuries old architecture of the historic town hall in the small city of De Rijp in The Netherlands. The town hall was designed in 1630 by Leeghwater. The building survived the fire of 6 and 7 January 1654. On the ground floor there is a weighing facility (De Waag), where cattle and agricultural and industrial products used to be weighed. The weigh house has three entrances: one on the Kleine Dam, one on the water and one on the street behind the building.

We just loved this cosy home which we spotted while walking on the main street of the small city of De Rijp in The Netherlands. Great colours and lovely decorations.

The small water lock
The Netherlands is a land of water. Many canals and other waterways criss cross the country and to maintain a decent water level everywhere, so-called water locks are needed to make sure vessels can go from a lower (or higher) water level to a higher (or lower) level. Here is a small water lock in the city of De Rijp.
B&B Het Pakhuys
B&B Het Pakhuys in the city of De Rijp in The Netherlands used to be a warehouse hundreds of years ago. It was turned into a Bed & Breakfast place which was closed because of the pandemic.
Original warehouse
Towards the end of our walk through the city of De Rijp in The Netherlands we noticed this original warehouse. Hundreds of years old and still looking great as ever.
