National Parks, British Columbia & Alberta, Canada

We started off in Vancouver and drove east with our first stop in the Wells Gray Provincial Park. We enjoyed the waterfalls and the salmon returning home to their birthplace. After that the trip continued to Jasper where we took the Icefields Parkway towards Banff. The Icefields Parkway is everything they say about it, awesome around every corner. The same is true for the Bow Valley Parkway.

Even though we only saw a relatively small part of Canada we found it to be an amazing country.

Small but impressive

The Mushbowl is a small waterfall system in the Wells Gray Provincial Park. We stopped at the bridge crossing the river and really enjoyed the force of the water and the evening light shining on the falls.

Forceful

Bailey's chute

Bailey's chute in Wells Gray Provincial Park is a place where salmon return to the birthplace swimming up the river and rapids. We were lucky to see three attempts, only one of which was successful. All in all it was a great experience.

Driving through a postcard

Driving on Highway 16 from British Columbia towards Alberta, Canada is like driving in a postcard. On a clear day like the one we had the colours are just amazing. The beautiful river shines in the sun.

Stranded with a view

While driving on Highway 16 from the stae of British Columbia towards Alberta, Canada we decided to stop for coffee. The coffee place itself was nothing special, but the view on Mount Robson was magnificent. This old truck fitted perfectly in the atmosphere I wanted to create.

A day at the lake

We had heard positive stories about Maligne Lake in Alberta, Canada and decided to book a boat tour. Not in the least because we also wanted to visit the famous Spirit Island. We were almost too late for the departure as we forgot the hour time difference as we passed the state border into Alberta.

Passing Spirit Island

After a smooth trip on Maligne Lake in Alberta, Canada we arrived at Spirit Island. We had seen many pictures of it but it was even more beautiful in reality. We were so happy that we booked this trip.

Spirit Island

Spirit Island must be one of the most photographed islands in the world and rightfully so. The only way to get there is by a boat on Maligne Lake in Alberta, Canada. It truly is a magical place to be.

Let's go boating

As we were admiring Spirit Island in Maligne Lake, Alberta, Canada, a small canoe came towards us. It just made the picture even more perfect than it already was.

Speeding

Maligne Lake in Alberta, Canada is one of most beautiful lakes we've ever seen. The water is insanely blue and the mountains around it are truly impressive. After the visit to Spirit Island, the return trip on the lake was fast, very fast.

Silvery river

The Atabasca River along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada provides everlasting memories. The colours of the river were truly beautiful in the morning light as the sunlight was reflected in the flowing water.

Rainbow in the Falls

Since I adore waterfalls we simply had to stop at the Athabasca Falls along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada. Since the sun was shining abundantly we had the privilege of getting some nice rainbow views.

Next to the river

Driving the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada is pure joy, but it does take a long time. Be prepared to have many stops along the way as there are views like this around every corner. This image will bring peace to your home.

Standing strong

Sunwapta Falls is just one of the many waterfall systems along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada. It was awesome to see how this little island with trees stands strong in the rapids.

Melted glacier

The Athabasca glacier can be found along the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, Canada. At the end of summer a lot of glacial ice had melted and gave us this pretty picture.

Bow Lake

The Icefields Parkway in Canada is one of those roads in the world that you must have driven, if only once in your life. We stopped for an hour at Bow Lake which is such an awesome lake. Looking at this photo you can pretend to be able to walk straight into this beautiful place.

Lots of snow

While in Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada we went up the mountain using one of the skilifts that are also operational in summer. Amazing views all around and expecially on Mount Huber towering above Lake Louise.

Bow River in the morning

Driving along the Bow River on the Bow Valley Parkway feels like driving in a postcard. Views like this one are a contstant reminder of how beautiful the world is. Amazing colours and reflections on the river.

Passing train

While at a short stop on the Bow Valley Parkway in Alberta, Canada a long freight train passed by. The contrast with the insanely blue water and mountains couldn't be greater but somehow it made for a great image.

MaBuoy Blue

We loved Two Jack Lake in Alberta, Canada as it was so peaceful and quiet. We just had a drink and enjoyed the view for an hour or so. The small boat next to us really made this picture complete.

Vermillion autumn

We took a little detour to watch the Vermillion Lakes in Alberta, Canada. Especially in autumn the colours are amazing.

Scary walk

The Johnston Canyon on the Bow Valley Parkway in Alberta, Canada. One of the more spectacular hikes we did while in Canada. The narrow boardwalk that is attached to the rock walls is pretty scary to be honest, but the views are magnificent.

Canadian Bosporus

Great view on the beautiful Canadian Bosporus from the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton Lakes National Park. It was an exceptionally clear day and the views on Glacier National Park over the lake were amazing.

Iconic hotel

Almost at the end of our trip through Canada we decided to stay in the iconic Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton Lakes National Park. It's a really historic place where everything is old and even the elevators are operated manually. Awesome location with splendid views all around.
