Gran Canaria (2013)

Early 2013 me and my wife took a small break from some very heavy chemo treatments she was undergoing at the time. Every third week of a cycle she was well enough for some travelling. We decided to spend a week on Gran Canaria in Spain, an island that we hadn't been to before. We specifically decided to stay in the little town of Santa Brígida and not in Maspalomas which is dominated by mass tourism and large hotels. It was more spectacular than we expected with amazing nature in the various nature parks.

San Antonio Vegueta Biblioteca

It's like going back in time when walking around in the city of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain. We loved the historic buildings like the San Antonio Vegueta Biblioteca. The Casa de Colón building not just houses a library but is also home to a Christopher Columbus museum.

Psychedelic palm tree

Sometimes I like to play with the zoom lens on the camera to try to create an interesting image. This palm tree in the city of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain was a great source of inspiration. It came out really nice, looking almost psychedelic.

Still quite a bit to go while hiking upwards towards the magnificent rock called Roque Nublo near the town of Tejeda on the island of Gran Canaria in Spain. It was a truly beautiful day for this hike.

Picnic with a view

We decided to have a picnic enjoying this amazing view after a long hike up to the Roque Nublo in the Nublo rural park near the town of Tejeda on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain.

Dunas de Maspalomas

I have always been fascinated by sand dunes. Don't really know why, but it just looks beautiful. So, on a day out to the touristic side on the island of Gran Canaria, Spain I just had to check out the Dunas de Maspalomas.

Portuguese man o' war

An interesting encounter while strolling on the beach in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Spain. At first we thought it was an ordinary but beautiful jellyfish, but later we found out it was a Portuguese man o' war which is quite poisenous. Even stepping on it would not have been wise.
