New Caledonia

New Caledonia is an overseas territory of France in the southwest Pacific Ocean, south of Vanuatu, about 1.210 km (750 mi) east of Australia, and 17.000 km (11,000 mi) from France. Our cruise ship docked in the harbour of the capital city Nouméa where we strolled around for a couple of hours before going on a private tour around Le Mont-Dore on the eastern side of the main island Grande Terre.

The non-touristy beach

For a first stop on our private tour, our tour guide suggested to visit the non-touristy beach in the local Baie de Kuendu near the capital city of Nouméa on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. It was an excellent choice and we spent some time exploring this little gem.

View from the restaurant

View from the restaurant in Baie de Kuendu near the capital city of Nouméa on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. As promised by our tour guide this local bay was so much better than the ones where most tourists are taken on an excursion.

Mountainous island

The second stop on our private tour on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia was the 'Tour du transmision MOBILIS' near the capital city of Nouméa. Being the highest point in the city it provides an excellent view of the surrounding area. It sure is a mountainous island.

The Dumbéa river

The Dumbéa river flowing peacefully through Parc Fayard on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. Our tour guide wanted us to show this place as it is the park she likes most near the capital city of Nouméa.

Parc Fayard

On our way to Le Mont-Dore our tour guide stopped at Parc Fayard. It's a beautiful place just north of the city of Nouméa on the main island Grande Terre in New. Caledonia.

Dirt road leading to the mountains

Looking at a dirt road leading to the mountains at one of the stops on our private tour around Le Mont-Dore on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. We really loved the colour of the dirt here.

Endless mountains

The extensive mountain range in the centre of the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. Covered by lush vegetation and a spectacle of amazing colours. Great view here from the road around Le Mont-Dore.

Stunning view

Stunning view of the eastern side of the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. Our drive around Le Mont-Dore was pretty awesome and natural beauty surrounds you at every turn.

View towards the ocean

Hidden beach

Our private tour guide stopped at a hidden beach on the southern side of Le Mont-Dore on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. Very pretty place and I decided to go down to wander on the beach.

Wandering on the beach

Wandering on the beach at a stop on the southern side of Le Mont-Dore on the main island Grande Terre in New Caledonia. Totally empty, exactly how I think beaches should be.

Sunset on the cruise ship

Roughly two hours after we had left the harbour of Nouméa in New Caledonia we went on deck to watch this Pacific Ocean sunset. The name of the cruise ship Norwegian Jewel shines in the setting sun.

Just before going down

On our cruise ship, the Norwegian Jewel admiring the sunset over the Pacific Ocean just before going down. Two hours before we left the harbour of Nouméa in New Caledonia after a great day on the island.
