Rüdesheim, Germany (2022)

In March of 2022, friends of ours asked us to go on a short trip to Germany with them. They loved the small town of Rüdesheim. Despite the fact that Germany still had some Covid measures in place where masks had to be worn in certain places we decided to go for it. We managed to just ignore the mask rules. Our first trip outside of our own country since the pandemic and we definitely missed travelling. Rüdesheim is a lovely little town indeed. From there we also visited the Lorelei and the city of Koblenz.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

Rock moss

Spending some time in Kultur und Landschaftspark Loreley near the town of Sankt Goarshausen in Germany. Legends and myths tell stories about the many ships that have disappeared here.

The Lorelei is a 132-metre-high, steep slate rock on the right bank of the Rhine river in the Rhine Gorge (or Middle Rhine), part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 1930s Loreley Amphitheatre is on top of the rock.

Loreley harbour

Loreley harbour as seen from the Kultur und Landschaftspark Loreley near the town of Sankt Goarshausen in Germany. It is basically a separated part of the Rhine river for some smaller ships to dock.

Making the turn

Standing on the Lorelei rock near the town of Sankt Goarshausen, Germany one gets a gooed view over the Rhine river below. Ships have to be extremely careful here as there are some nasty turns to make.

Tough to reach

Tough to reach is an understatement when you see this lovely castle. Burg Pfalzgrafenstein is a toll castle on the Falkenau island, otherwise known as Pfalz Island in the Rhine river near Kaub, Germany. Known as "the Pfalz", this former stronghold is famous for its picturesque and unique setting.

Burg Pfalzgrafenstein

Burg Pfalzgrafenstein in Kaub, Germany. The keep of this island castle, a pentagonal tower with its point upstream, was erected between 1326 and 1327 by King Ludwig the Bavarian. Around the tower, a defensive hexagonal wall was built between 1338 and 1340. Absolutely gorgeous in it's setting and definitely worth a short stop while driving along the Rhine river.

Siegfrieds mechanisches Musikkabinett

Siegfrieds mechanisches Musikkabinett is a museum in the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein in the German state of Hesse. The museum is dedicated to mechanical musical instruments. The museum displays instruments made from the 18th to the 20th century. It has a collection of 350 musical instruments ranging from small playing bells to large concert instruments. Special pieces in the museum are self-playing violins, an orchestrion with the name Hupfeld Violina Orchestra and a cinema organ by Welte. The museum was founded by Siegfried Wendel.

It would have been nice to go in, but we didn't because of the requirement to wear a mask.

Niederwaldtempel

The Niederwald temple can be easily reached from the small town of Rüdesheim in Germany, either by car or gondola lift. It lies between the top station of the gondola lift and the Niederwald Monument, and offers views across the countryside. The Count of Ostein built it as an attraction in 1788.

Delicate Spring flowers

Some delicate Spring flowers at the Niederwald monument near the small town of Rüdesheim in Germany. We had a lovely walk from the temple overlooking the Rhine river towards the monument. I definitely recommend visiting this Niederwald area close to the town.

Vineyards around Rüdesheim

Vineyards around the small town of Rüdesheim in Germany. It's in the German wine region of Rheingau. It has a number of notable vineyard sites planted mainly to produce Riesling wines.

Niederwalddenkmal

The Niederwald monument is a monument located in the Niederwald, near Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany, built between 1871 and 1883 to commemorate the Unification of Germany. The monument is located within the Rhine Gorge, a larger UNESCO World Heritage Site. It overlooks the Rhine Valley and the town of Bingen on the far side. We loved how people can just sit on this monument overlooking the river below.

Drosselgasse

The Drosselgasse in the small town of Rüdesheim in Germany is the most known street and tourist attraction. It is clear to see why, as it is just a gorgeous narrow street with cute boutiques and typical German houses.

Entrance to the rooms

Entrance to the rooms of Hotel Lindenwirt in the small town of Rüdesheim in Germany. We loved this beer themed hotel where each room is basically a giant barrel.

On the tracks

I have always been attracted to trains and railways. So while crossing the railway tracks in the small town of Rüdesheim in Germany I could not resist making this photo. It looks especially pretty with the sunset behind them.

Passing Marksburg in Braubach

The amount of castles in Germany is astonishing. On our way to the city of Koblenz we were passing Marksburg in Braubach near the village of Brey in Germany. It was practically impossible to photograph them all but this one looked really pretty on top of that hill.

Magnificent magnolia

Spring was definitely in the air when we arrived in the city of Koblenz, Germany. Magnolia trees were blooming everywhere. This magnificent magnolia looks awesome against the blue sky.

Approaching the Deutches Eck monument

Deutsches Eck ("German Corner") is the name of a promontory in Koblenz, Germany, where the Mosel river joins the Rhine. Today it is a Koblenz monument and a popular tourist attraction.
