O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA (2019)

Before we embarked on our Pacific cruise from Honolulu to Sydney in November of 2019 we spent a week on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i in the USA. Our accommodation in the town of Wai'anae on the West coast gave us some perfect sunsets and was an ideal base to explore the island. We really loved the North Shore and had a great time on Waikiki beach. The highlight of this week was flying over the island in a helicopter without the doors in it.

All photo's can be purchased on various materials through my shop on artheroes.com.

Below are all the photos related to this travel experience including the relevant link to the shop.

The wave

We loved watching the waves on the beach next to our accommodation near the town of Wai'anae on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We were surprised that the ocean was so crystal clear.

Sunset in a glass

What better way to celebrate our safe arrival than by watching the sunset while having a glass of wine. We love our accommodation next to the Pacific Ocean near the town of Wai'anae on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA.

Turning purple

Watching a great sunset turning purple on our first day in the accommodation near the town of Wai'anae on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We were pretty happy with this accommodation being literally next to the beach, providing these amazing ocean views.

Waving grass

Waving grass in the Ka'ena Point State Park on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. This fabulous state park was very close to our accommodation in the town of Wai'anae, so easy to reach. We spent quite some time here watching the ocean and enjoying nature.

Crabs on the rocks

Loved watching the wildlife like these frogs and crabs on the rocks in the Ka'ena Point State Park on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. There were quite a lot of them too.

Smashing against the coast

I like watching wild ocean water so definitely loved these waves smashing against the coast in the Ka'ena Point State Park on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We spent a good amount of time in this gorgeous area.

Waves keep coming

The waves keep coming while we explore the Ka'ena Point State Park on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. I really loved climbing the volcanic rocks and enjoying the waves.

Watery sunset

Kind of a watery sunset at our accomodation in the town of Wai'anae on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We really liked the sunset reflection in the ocean water retreating from the beach.

Towards the mountains

A perfect dirt road leading towards the mountains near the town of Waialua on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We absolutely adore the mountains on Hawai'i as they are so exquisitly shaped.

Lunch time!

Lovely food truck in the center of the town of Hale'iwa on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. It really made us want to eat something, so lunch time!

Surfers on the wild waves

Surfers showing off their skills on the wild waves at the North Shore on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. I have the utmost respect for people doing this. I could never do what they do but admire their shenanigans.

Spectacular waves

I definitely have a thing for wild water and as such loved these spectacular waves on the North Shore on the island O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. It just shows how powerful the ocean can be.

Surfers paradise

A true surfers paradise they call the North Shore on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. The waves are enormous and a real challenge for most surfers. Closeby is the famous Banzai Pipeline which hosts some of the world's most prestigious surfing events and competitions, but only the most skilled can ride these incredible waves.

The girl and her dog

The girl and her dog sitting on the beach at Waimea Bay, part of the North Shore on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. It perfectly captures the serenity of the moment.

The girl and the ocean

A lovely woman standing at the ocean on the North Shore on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Many people are into surfing and so was she, here waiting for someone else to emerge from the ocean.

Someone's back yard

This is actually someone's back yard on the North Shore on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. All beaches are public and as such the luxureous houses on the coast have to provide access to those beaches. It must be fantastic to live here and have these views all the time.

Beach paradise

Many tourists love this beach paradise at Hanauma Bay on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Formed within a volcanic cone, this pristine marine ecosystem offers visitors an amazing place to snorkel and explore the diverse wildlife that inhabit the area.

Secret beach

Loved hanging out at this secret beach in the Hãlona cove on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. The reason it is secret is because officially it is not allowed to climb down the hill overlooking the cove. However, since many others were already there I decided it wouldn't hurt to check it out. I did not regret that decision.

Silhouette sunset

Every day hundreds of people gather on Waikiki Beach for an amazing sunset in the city of Honolulu on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We loved their silhouettes and the palm trees during this beautiful sunset.

Waikiki sunset

Enjoying a wonderful Waikiki sunset at Waikiki Beach in Honolulu on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. We loved the silhouettes of both the surfers as well as the ship on the horizon.

Framing the sun

Framing the sun during another fabulous sunset from our accommodation in the town of Wai'anae on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Perfect view, especially with a glass of wine.

Hawai'i Five-0 HQ

The Hawai'i Five-0 HQ, actually Aliʻiōlani Hale, in the city of Honolulu on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA.

Aliʻiōlani Hale is a building located in downtown Honolulu, currently used as the home of the Hawaiʻi State Supreme Court. In the 2010 version of CBS' Hawaii Five-0 TV series, Aliʻiōlani Hale is depicted as the 'Iolani Palace; headquarters for the Five-0 task force with exterior shots of the building being used frequently throughout the series.

Waimea Bay

Approaching Waimea Bay and the North Shore on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Stunning views from the helicopter and a great way to watch the amazing wave patterns.

Chasing waterfalls

Chasing waterfalls in the Ko'olau Mountain Range on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Sacred Falls can be seen in the distance and it is where we are heading towards to. These falls can only be seen from the air, so pretty special.

Sacred Falls

Flying towards Sacred Falls, deep in the Ko'olau Mountain Range on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Sacred Falls is hands down the most beautiful waterfall on O’ahu. The bottom 25m drop of this 400m waterfall was once accessible along a trail leading to a swimming pool at the base of the falls. It is located deep in the valley in Hau'ula and it is now illegal to hike up there.

The South coast

Flying over the South coast on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. The volcanic structures are clearly visible from up here. Truly awesome feeling with the wind in our hair.

Passing Honolulu

Comfortably sitting in the Magnum helicopter we are passing Honolulu on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. Great relaxed city to spend some time in by the way.

Mission completed

Mission completed successfully after we had a fantastic time on this helicopter flying over the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. The helicopter is an exact copy of the one used in the TV-series Magnum P.I. which gave it a bit of a special touch. We opted for the version without doors. Bit chilly in the air but so much better views.

Waiâhole Beach Park

Even though dark clouds were forming and a thunderstorm was clearly on its way, we stopped at the Waiâhole Beach Park on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. It turned out to be a great place to look at Chinaman's Hat (Mokoliʻi), which is a basalt islet in Kāneʻohe Bay located 500m offshore of Kualoa Point.

Remarkable rock

A nice and remarkable volcanic rock on a small beach at Ka‘ô‘Io Point on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. This beach is easy to find as it stretches along the Kamehameha Hwy on the East side of the island.

Natural bridge

Lovely natural bridge at the Lâ'ie Point State Wayside park on the island of O'ahu, Hawai'i, USA. This park is tucked back in a residential area on a road that dead ends at the ocean. It is breathtakingly beautiful out here. You can walk out on the rocky point and enjoy watching the waves crash up against a large rock outcropping with an arch. Parking here is minimal and parking along the houses is discouraged. Definitely recommended.
