Lake Powell, Arizona, USA

We thought it would be fun to have a boat trip on Lake Powell. And it truly was! We especially loved all the various rock formations alongside the waterways. We went quite a long way into Antelope Canyon which eventually ends up in Lower Antelope Canyon, the one we walked in earlier in the day.

Lake Powell is not a lake as one would think, it's an artificial reservoir on the Colorado River. It was created by the flooding of Glen Canyon by the Glen Canyon Dam.

Nicely stacked

Nicely stacked rocks in Lake Powell near the town of Page in Arizona, USA. The normal colour of rocks changes nearer to the water. Referred to as the “bathtub ring,” the pale outline shows when the lake is below capacity. Calcium carbonate and other mineral compounds, many of them various salts in the water, attach themselves to the sandstone and leave behind this white mark. The top of the white mark is the high water mark.
