Ireland, Europe (2019)

We had always wanted to visit Ireland but somehow never got around to actually go there. But when the Celtic Tenors announced they were hosting a bus tour following the Atlantic Way we decided to book this unique trip. Since we are great fans of these guys it would be nice way to see both Ireland and these great singers in action.

The trip started in Dublin and led us through Limerick, Killarney and the Dingle peninsula to Galway. Unlike what we expected the weather was great. Along the way we were treated to three concerts in unique locations.

The trophy stand

An unusual part of the city tour through the city of Dublin in Ireland was a visit to Croke Park stadium. Croke Park is headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) and home of Ireland's premier concert and events venue. The trophy stand looked quite impressive.

The stadium is huge

Visiting Croke Park stadium in the city of Dublin in Ireland was overwhelming. The stadium is huge, especially when you get to see it when it's empty. On a busy day it can host up to 82.300 spectators.

It provides a perfect partner to the Irish National Stud’s Japanese Gardens while, at the same time, opening up a wholly different yet equally satisfying experience.

The gatehouse

On our way towards Killarney in County Kerry we stopped at King John's castle in the town of Limerick, Ireland. Although the site dates back to 922 when the Vikings lived here, the castle itself was built on the orders of King John of England in 1200. One of the best preserved Norman castles in Europe, the walls, towers and fortifications remain today and are truly worth visiting. We went in through the gatehouse and walked on the walls.
