Our last stop on this road trip to and through Italy brought us to Cinque Terre, five gorgeous gems along the coastline at the Ligurian Sea. From our airbnb in La Spezia we took the train and visited the towns of Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore. All different and yet quite alike. We enjoyed the colourful houses against a backdrop of green mountains and touched by blue bays.

Taking a car to visit the individual towns in Cinque Terre, Italy is not recommended so we went by train. After having arrived in the town of Vernazza we were overlooking Via Roma, the street we needed to pass to get to the bay.
The small and colourful boat 'Cheo' on the beach in the town of Vernazza, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. Quite an idyllic picture with the church next to the beach and people enjoying life.
Wonderful harbour view at the town of Vernazza, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. Even though there were quite some tourists it felt really peaceful. Getting here by car means driving down the mountain in the back.
Comfortably sitting on a small terrace overlooking the bay we enjoyed these nicely structured cliffs in the town of Vernazza, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. A little later we saw people climbing on the cliffs and jumping back into the water.
These yellow stairs in the town of Vernazza, part of Cinque Terre in Italy, are just a few of the many, many stairs that are necessary to climb up to individual houses.
A perfect sunny day to visit the colourful town of Manarola, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. After the train dropped us off it was a short walk to the beautiful bay and the scenic views we were so looking forward to.
These are the typical views we always see of Cinque Terre in Italy. The five towns making up this gorgeous part of Italy are picture perfect. The town of Manarola is looking just like the postcards.
A perfect view on the lovely town of Manarola, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. The colourful houses on those hills look stunning, especially when the sun is shining.
Using a beautiful walkway we slowly climbed a hill taking us away from the centre of the town of Manarola, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. It did give us a perfect view on Manarola bay with its clear blue water and some small boats. Quite the idyllic picture.
It's amazing to see how all these houses are built on top of each other in the town of Manarola, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. It doesn't seem to be very convenient when you think about deliveries and I think a lot of climbing must be involved.
Looking down from a hill I climbed up on in the town of Riomaggiore, part of Cinque Terre, Italy. A lovely couple is admiring the view. Maybe they're wondering what boat to take.
I had to climb up a moderately steep hill to get a nice overview of the town of Riomaggiore, part of Cinque Terre in Italy. It looks absolutely awesome, especially on a sunny day like this one was, but I'm glad I don't live there.
From the position I climbed up to I had a nice view on this red house on the corner in the town of Riomaggiore, part of Cinque Terre in Italy.
