To get from Germany to Italy we decided to use a route through the Dolomites that would take us over all the major passes. Not the easiest of routes but certainly the most beautiful one. Luckily we had sunny days and all roads were well clear of snow and ice.

From the comfort of our accommodation in Santa Cristina, Val Gardena we watched a beautiful sunset on the Italian Dolomites. Great place to stay for a few days.
While staying in Val Gardena, Italy we decided to drive into the mountains towards the Sella Pass. It was an absolute gorgeous day to enjoy the peaks of the Dolomites. We loved the perfect snow at the top of the mountains.
One of the amazing views from the Sella Pass (Sellajoch) near Val Gardena in the Italian part of the Dolomites. We were lucky to be there on an exceptionally clear day. And even though the temperature was just a little above the freezing point the sun made it all pretty bearable.
The snowy Dolomites as seen from the Sella Pass near Val Gardena, Italy. The views all around are truly breathtaking and we couldn't get enough of them. As it was the end of April the ski season was practically over and summer tourism hadn't taken off yet we were the only ones there. All in all a great time to visit.
Even though I am not a real fan of winter I do love the look of untouched snow. There was lots of it on the Sella Pass in the Italian part of the Dolomites near Val Gardena in
Italy.
Admiring the Sella Towers in the Italian part of the Dolomites during a beautiful day out from our accommodation in Val Gardena. The Sella Towers are four summits in the Sella group in South Tyrol, Italy.
Looking at an airplane flying over the mountains in the Italian part of the Dolomites. While staying in Val Gardena, going into the nearby mountains was a real treat.
Enjoying some idyllic views on the Passo Pordoi in the Italian part of the Dolomites. This was the final pass we went over before reaching the northern part of Italy where it would be much warmer.
Having no idea how people get up there, it is clearly visible that people do ski down that mountain. This is just one of the many ski slopes on the Passo Pordoi in the Italian part of the Dolomites.
After coming down from a curvy drive off one of the passes through the Dolomites we were in need of a rest. We stopped at this overlook near Cortina d'Ampezzo in Italy and were treated with an amazing view.
Having lunch in the small village of Valle di Cadore in the Italian part of the Dolomites. Amazing Spring day with a phenomenal view. The church of San Martino stands proud amidst the majestic mountains.
We really loved this charming church in the small village of Valle di Cadore, deep in the Italian part of the Dolomites. They sure must have faith it doesn't slide down as it is built so close to the edge.
